New “Rise of Skywalker” Photos & Details
This month’s issue of Vanity Fair is doing an extensive cover story on J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and have just posted the lengthy feature online which also includes a bunch of photos by the one and only Annie Leibovitz and reveals some key new details.
The piece gives first looks at Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant’s characters. Russell plays the masked scoundrel Zorri Bliss who is posing in the Thieves’ Quarter of the snow-dusted world Kijimi. Ackie is some sort of warrior native named Jannah who, atop hardy orbaks, leads the charge against the mechanized forces of the First Order.
Grant plays Allegiant General Pryde who seems to be one of the key leaders of the First Order and above or at least equal to General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson). The shots also confirm the Knights of Ren, the elite fearsome enforcers of Kylo Ren’s will, play a key part.
Further details from the story include that the film begins a year after the events of ‘Last Jedi’ and said to bring to a climax the millennia-long conflict between the Jedi Order and the Sith. Rey and Kylo’s force-connection will turn out to “run even deeper than we thought”.
Also, Abrams initially wrote Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd out of scenes involving her late mother in case it was too painful, but the actress said no and wanted to be in them as her Resistance officer character Lieutenant Connix.
