Filming Wraps On “Star Wars: Episode IX”
After more than six months of filming, J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode IX” wrapped principal photography today. The project marks the ninth and final installment in the main “Star Wars” saga and the third in the current series that began with ‘Force Awakens’.
To celebrate the news, Abrams released a special photo of actors Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Issac on the set on the final day. He also tweeted “It feels impossible, but today wrapped photography on ‘Episode IX’. There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast. I’m forever indebted to you all.”
Filming on the new entry began in August last year based on a script by Abrams and Chris Terrio. Composer John Williams will return to score the film which also stars Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Dominic Monaghan, Matt Smith, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams. The role of Leia Organa will once again be played by Carrie Fisher, using previously unreleased footage.
Disney has also announced that they have set aside October 4th as ‘Triple Force Friday’ the day to launch consumer products tied into this film, Disney Animation’s “Frozen 2,” and the live-action “Star Wars” spinoff series “The Mandalorian”. They’ll also use the event to push the upcoming game “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order”.
“Star Wars: Episode IX” is scheduled for release on December 20th.
