“The Stand” Becomes An Event Series
Plans for a film adaptation of Stephen King’s epic novel “The Stand” have been stalled for a while. At last report almost four years ago, the plan was for Warners to do a film AND a mini-series for Showtime.
Now the project looks to have been retooled in favor of a ten-episode event series take which is being made for the CBS All Access streaming service.
Josh Boone (“The New Mutants,” “The Fault in Our Stars”) has been attached to the film version for years and will team up with “SEAL Team” producer Ben Cavell to produce the adaptation which he’s also slated to direct.
The story follows an epic battle between good and evil after the American population is all but wiped out by a deadly virus, with the narrative focusing on a group of survivors who fight against an Antichrist-like figure named Randall Flagg.
Stephen King says in an official statement: “I’m excited and so very pleased that The Stand is going to have a new life on this exciting new platform. The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they’re doing; the scripts are dynamite. The result bids to be something memorable and thrilling. I believe it will take viewers away to a world they hope will never happen.”
