Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Rumored For Disney+

Burned by the fizzle of “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” Lucasfilm and Disney’s focus on the “Star Wars” franchise beyond ‘Episode IX’ now seems to be channelled towards “The Mandalorian” and “Rogue One” spin-off TV series along with other projects for the soon to arrive Disney+ streaming service.

At the same time further standalone films under the ‘A Star Wars Story’ brand have been put aside, meaning talk of movies about Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi are seemingly over. Or are they?

A rumor broke the other night at SWNewsNet suggesting the proposed Stephen Daldry-directed Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is being re-conceived as an event series up to six episodes long, and that project will be the next ‘top priority’ for the company beyond the two announced live-action series projects.

Actor Ewan McGregor has previously expressed interest in returning to the role, while Disney chief Bob Iger has said in the past that multiple series based on the franchise were in development. However, beyond the two announced series, there’s been no concrete evidence of any further ones planned and Disney is very good at keeping projects like this under their hat until they are ready to reveal them.

Both Rian Johnson and “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are said to be developing their own separate “Star Wars” film trilogies though it’s not clear how far those projects are along.
