Apple’s TV+ Shows Will Include Some Adult Stuff
In fact said reports claimed Apple chief Tim Cook and other execs wanted everything toned-down and made more palatable to family audiences – one of the reasons why the Dr. Dre biopic series “Vital Signs” was abandoned was said to be due to its adult content which included drug use, an extended orgy scene, and gun play.
Apple put aside $1 billion for Hollywood programming last year, but shows made under its umbrella can’t risk tainting its brand image – one that has led to them dominating the profit share of the global smartphone market.
However this week, Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services Eddy Cue spoke with British GQ and claims there is plenty of adult content happening, adding that the upcoming dramedy series “The Morning Show” starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon will include things that “are definitely not appropriate for you to watch with an eight-year-old” with much of it related to coarse language.
Cue says Apple is “ultimately trying to create shows for everyone. So we have shows that are dedicated to small kids. And we have shows that are dedicated to mature adults. So we’re going to do a lot of different shows and what we’re going to do is hopefully create the best shows on TV.”
He also shoots down the reports that Cook and others were getting over-involved in the shows and ordering the content to be cleaned up with Cook allegedly writing a note to producers saying “Don’t be so mean”. Cue says: “I can assure you that was 100 per cent false. [We] leave the folks [alone] who know they’re doing.”
Apple TV+ is expected to launch in the Fall.
