“The Irishman” Viewing Figures Are In

To put that in comparison, the streamer’s two biggest film hits to date – “Bird Box” and “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” – pulled in 26 million and 25 million unique viewers each respectively in their first week of release with those having average minute audiences of 16.9 million and 8.2 million respectively.

It has also been revealed that on the debut date of “The Irishman”, 751,000 viewers (18% of the total viewership) watched the movie in its entirety. That’s on par with “Bird Box” (also 18%) and better than “El Camino” (11%). Of course, Nielsen’s extrapolated figures cover only the U.S. and only certain ways of viewing – namely only connected TVs so no mobile devices or computers.

The numbers come as Netflix head of original films Scott Stuber said yesterday the company plans to release viewing data in a more organized and transparent way in the future with a comprehensive system of reporting audience metrics for its movies. Stuber says one issue is to provide context around the numbers so a film isn’t perceived as a flop before it hits streaming.
