Kevin Hart Talks Oscars Hosting With Ellen
First Update: Last month, comedian Kevin Hart was announced as the host of the Oscars and within days stepped down from the gig following the controversy surrounding homophobic remarks he made in the past.
Earlier today talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who is not only openly gay but has hosted the Oscars numerous times to acclaim, has revealed that she has conducted an interview with Hart and as a result of the conversation she is bumping up the planned air date of the interview from next week to tomorrow.
DeGeneres announced on Twitter: “I had an incredible and honest conversation with @KevinHart4real about hosting the #Oscars. It was supposed to air on Monday. I don’t want you to have to wait, so now it’s gonna air tomorrow.” No replacement Oscars host has yet been announced for the late February broadcast, which has prompted speculation the ceremony could well skip one entirely this year.
Second Update: The interview has seemingly gone online in full at Deadline. Running around 15 minutes total, DeGeneres indicates she called The Academy earlier in the day to ask them whether they would consider reinstating Hart as host to which they reportedly responded to her: “We want him to host, whatever we can do, we would be thrilled, and he should host.”
Hart was hesitant, saying, it’s tough for him because it was “a malicious attack on my character, to end me”. Ultimately he ends the interview saying: “Leaving here, I promise you I’m evaluating this conversation… Let me assess, sit in the space and really think, and you and I will talk before anything else.”
