“Hobbs & Shaw” Headed For $60M Opening
A very solid opening, even though it will be the lowest for the franchise since 2006’s “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” and the fourth-lowest overall behind only the first three movies in the street racing turned action blockbuster series. The most recent film, “The Fate of the Furious,” took in $98.7 million in its opening weekend.
David Leitch helms the new film following Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and Shaw (Jason Statham) – a former British military elite operative turned criminal.
When cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever, and bests a fearless rogue MI6 agent (Vanessa Kirby) who happens to be Shaw’s sister – these two enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy worse than themselves.
It has been revealed the film will sport the fun sounding title “Wild Speed: Super Combo” when it opens in Japan. The film opens August 2nd, check out a new stunt video from the project below:
