Next 3 DC Superhero Movies: ‘Shazam!,’ ‘Birds of Prey,’ ‘Wonder Woman 1984’
James Wan’s highly-anticipated Aquaman has exceeded all expectations, establishing Jason Momoa as a superhero on both land and sea. The action-adventure has a light heart while dealing with serious issues, bolstered by spectacular visual effects and strong performances by Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe and Nicole Kidman.
Now that Aquaman has launched successful into theaters, what’s next for DC Films? We take a closer look at three of their upcoming productions.
Young teenage orphan Billy Batson (Asher Angel) discovers that he can transform into an adult superhero (Zachary Levi), simply by saying one word. Of course, he must first learn what powers he can wield as a superhero; then he must figure how best to use those powers to help other people.
The first trailer sets up an action movie with a good deal of winning humor. Mark Strong also stars as a villainous figure; David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) directed. Shazam! will open in theaters everywhere on April 5, 2019.
The overall critical reaction to Suicide Squad may have been mixed, but everyone agreed that Margot Robbie gave a standout performance as Harley Quinn. Now the charming criminal will be showcased on the big screen again in Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).
In the face of a mighty foe, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) demonstrated her courage and bravery during World War I. The sequel jumps ahead more than six decades as Diana Prince comes into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s. Kristen Wiig will portray Barbara Ann Minerva, an archeologist who becomes the villainous Cheetah and opposes Wonder Woman.
Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) will also return, along with Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright. Patty Jenkins will once again direct. Wonder Woman 1984 is set for release on June 5, 2020.
